About
Voices with roots
Marcus Garvey moved millions with the spoken word. Our competitions carry that tradition forward.
Our mission
We build confidence, critical thinking and cultural pride by challenging young people to research, write and deliver speeches on themes drawn from Garvey's life and philosophy: self-reliance, unity, education and pride in heritage.
Who was Garvey?
Born in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica in 1887, Marcus Mosiah Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and became one of the most powerful orators of the 20th century. He is Jamaica's first National Hero.
